  • Record staff computer use?

Record staff computer use?47% of employers report that employees took corporate data with them when they left the company. This happened to me last year but luckily I had software running that monitors and records employee computer use activity. The reason I'm writing this blog is because I just spoke with one of my clients who said she has a problem with staff wasting time by playing games and surfing the web so I told her that I use staff computer monitoring software which has solved that problem for me.

Firstly, do you have the right to record what your staff do on work computers? In the majority of cases you have the right to monitor because it's your computer. You should inform your staff that they are being monitored and should not be doing personal things on work computers such as checking private emails.

    Why monitor?

    1. Improve staff performance. They are more likely to be doing work if they know they're being monitored.
    2. Reduces data usage which could reduce your monthly Internet bill.
    3. Improves computer reliability becasue staff aren't accessing dodgy websites that could infect your computer.
    4. Increases client security because staff are unlikely to risk copying their information.
    5. Protects your intellectual property because you can show what your staff did on your behalf to develop that technology.
    6. Makes things fairer in the workplace for all staff because it adds transparency to work processes.

The software that I use is called Spector 360. There are plenty of other ones you could use and you may want to seek advice from your computer support people. Here's an intro video:
